For the second project of this semester, my class was asked to create an assemblage based on an already existing artifact. In order to complete this, I chose to create a video using one-second clips from everyday of this past summer. After completing this project, I’d say that it is an example mostly of composing, however some writing was still involved. Majority of the project involved composing, in my opinion, because it was created using multiple platforms, as well as was created very purposefully. Writing did however make an appearance in three areas; the first being the caption over the videos that were taken from SnapChat, the second and third being from the rhetorical analysis and the designer’s statement that was created along with the actual process.

One of my favorite things about creating this project was the way of communicating things in a different way. I was able to shed light on my life, and inform my family and friends on the things happening in my life in a totally untraditional way. Rather than communicating life updates through a status, I had a video, which usually captures people’s attention more, not to mention was proven to be more effective, at least for my family. I had multiple family members ask me about things based on what they had seen in my video. On top of this being an effective way of communication, the project was also a good way to incorporate many of our class’ other key terms.

Design was one of the biggest key terms involved in this project aside from assemblage, as the way the project was designed was essential for the way in which the audience perceives the final outcome. Proper design is important in order to ensure the audiences is drawn in and understands everything properly. Material could have also been involved depending on what the artifact was that the student was assembling. For instance, a fellow classmate created her assemblage using trash; this is a prime example of having to consider and gather materials. Genre of course was another big key term important in the creation of this project. Students also had to consider what genre their new assemblage would fall into, and ensure that when creating it, it fit into this genre.

Overall, project two was an excellent way to incorporate many of the course’s key terms, as well as push students to create an example of effective communication in a way that could be relatable and sort of fun for students.
